Libsyn gives you a lot of flexibility and control over when your episodes get published. You can schedule a new episode to be released at the same time on all of the podcast directories and sites that you've connected your show to. Or, you can schedule different dates and times for each podcast directory. For example, if you want your episode to show up on Google Podcasts tomorrow, on Spotify next week, and on Amazon Music the week after that, you can accomplish that in one place using the scheduling features in Libsyn.
Note | Libsyn also offers features for managing your publications on social media. For more information about how to schedule one or more posts to Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, see Schedule an Episode to Appear on Social Media. |
After you publish, your episode appears in all of the publishing destinations you’ve connected your show to. The episode also appears in the Episodes tab in Libsyn, where you can view or edit it, and review stats.
Note | For an overview of how to publish an episode, see Publish an Episode. |
Schedule One Date for All Publication Destinations
This option lets you set a date for when your episode will publish to all publication destinations that you've connected your show to, including podcast directories as well as social media and elsewhere.
Also, this option gives you a way to “expire” the episode, meaning that you can set a date after which the episode will no longer be available to listeners. However, the episode will remain uploaded to Libsyn after the expiration date you set in case you ever need it.
To schedule a date for publication:
- Click the Publish field and select Schedule from the options that appear.
- In the Release field, enter the date and time that you want to publish your episode.
Tip To easily enter a date and a time without typing, click the icon to the right of the field to select a date, and click the
icon to select a time.
- Optionally, enter a date in the Expiration field if you want to make the episode unavailable. Your episode will no longer appear in podcast directories and other destinations after the date you enter. Leave the field blank if you want it to always be available.
- In the field beneath the Expiration field, choose one of the following:
a. Media files are always available: Choose this option if you want to make your episode available to share before the date you've scheduled it to be published. This option is useful if you want to share your episode with someone who needs to listen to it before the general public does. b. Media files are available based on the release schedule: Choose this option if you don't want your episode to be available to anyone before the scheduled time for publication. Note Because the selection you make affects when your episode is available to share, it also affects how Libsyn stats track your episode. Selecting Media files are always available makes your episode available to share as soon as you click Publish. Therefore, if you schedule your episode to be released to podcast directories next week, but you click Publish today, Libsyn stats begin to track your episode today because that is the moment that it is first available. - Click Save. Your episode will publish on the day and time you entered in the Release field to all the publishing destinations you configured your show to appear in.
Schedule Different Dates for Different Publication Destinations
This option gives you a way to set different publishing dates for different publishing destinations. For example, if you want to make your episode available a week earlier on Spotify and Google Podcasts than in other places, you can enter different dates for just those directories.
In addition, you can also choose to make the episode unavailable in certain destinations after a certain time by entering an “expiration” date.
To schedule publishing dates for different publishing destinations:
- Click the Publish field and select Custom from the options that appear. The Custom Destination Schedule table appears at the bottom of the form.
- In the field beneath the Publish field, choose one of the following:
a. Media files are always available: Choose this option to make your episode available to share before the date you've scheduled it to be published. - Specify publication dates and times for each destination in the fields under the RELEASE column, and, optionally, specify expiration dates and times in the fields under the EXPIRATION column. Entering a date in a field under the EXPIRATION column will make the episode unavailable in that destination after the date you enter. Leave the fields in the EXPIRATION column blank if you want the episode to always be available.
Tip To easily enter a date and a time without typing, click the icon to the right of the field to select a date, and click the
icon to select a time.
Optionally, you can enter more than one release and expiration date at a time if several destinations share the same date. To enter the same date for more than one destination:
a. Click Select in the upper, right-hand corner of the Custom Destination Schedule table. Two new Release and Expiration fields appear at the top of the table. b. In the Release field on the left, enter the date and time you want to publish. c. In the Expiration field on the right, enter the date and time after which you no longer want the episode to be available to the public. Leave this field blank if you want the episode to always be available. d. Click the bubble to the left of the destination name to select the destinations you want to apply the dates to. When you select a destination, the bubble appears green with an arrow inside. Tip If you have many destinations in your list, you can quickly select all of them by clicking the bubble to the left of DESTINATION at the top of the column. Then, you can refine your selected items by clicking the green bubbles next to the names you don’t want to include to clear them from your selection. e. When you've selected the appropriate destinations, click Apply. The date or dates you entered appear in the appropriate fields for the destinations you selected. f. Repeat the steps for any other destinations you want to enter a different date for. g. Click Done and move to step 4. - Click Save.
