We'd hate to see you leave Libsyn, but if you decide to move on, you can easily close your podcast and move to your new host. The process involves several steps that are outlined below.
Move Your Podcast Content from Libsyn to Your New Host
The first step in closing your podcast is moving your content to your new host. After you close your podcast with Libsyn, you won't have access to your content. That's why it's important to make sure your episodes, artwork, and everything else you want to keep has moved to your new location before you close your podcast.
Different hosts use different processes for moving content, so you should contact your new host to find out how to move your content from Libsyn to its new location.
Point Directories from Libsyn to Your New Feed
Directories where you publish your episodes, like Apple Podcasts, get your information by pulling it from your RSS feed. These directories will continue to look for your Libsyn feed, so you have to update them to go to your new feed instead. To do so, you have to set up a redirect in Libsyn. Here's how:
- Sign in to Libsyn and, if you have more than one show, select the show that you want to close.
- Click the
icon on the bottom, left-hand side of your Libsyn account. The Settings menu opens.
- Click Feed & Website Redirects.
- In the Feed Redirect URL, paste the URL for your new feed.
- Click Save.
Important Note that not all directories automatically update to your new feed with a redirect - you might need to manually update some directories for them to start going to your new feed. Check with your new host for assistance with any directories that don't automatically update.
Close Your Libsyn Podcast
After you have made sure that your content has moved to your new host, and your redirect to your new feed is in place, you can close your Libsyn podcast. After you complete the closing process outlined below, your podcast officially closes on the 28th day of the current month, and Libsyn will no longer bill you.
After the 28th, the redirect you set up will still be active, but your content will no longer appear in Libsyn. That means that directories looking for your Libsyn feed will still get redirected to your new one, but your content - such as episodes or artwork - will no longer be available in your Libsyn account.
To close your podcast:
- Sign in to Libsyn and, if you have more than one show, select the show that you want to close.
- Click the
icon on the bottom, left-hand side of your Libsyn account. The Settings menu opens.
- Click Billing. The Billing Settings form opens.
- Scroll to the very bottom of the page and click Close Show.
- In the window that appears, click Close Show for confirmation.
- If a survey window opens, we would appreciate if you could give some feedback about why you're leaving so we can improve our service. Thanks for your help!
Your show will officially close on the 28th of the month, and Libsyn will no longer bill you for it. We're sorry to see you go. Good luck with your podcast!
