Before you publish an episode, it's important to cover all your bases to make sure your show will appear exactly how and where you want it to, and to provide a great experience for your listeners. This article walks you through everything you should set up before you publish.
Have You Encoded Your Episode?
After you record an episode, the first step for getting ready to publish is editing your audio (and video, if you have any). Then, you'll need to export and encode it to a podcasting format. If the media file that contains your episode is not properly encoded, it might not play correctly in podcast directories. If you need guidance on this process, see Some Tips on Content Creation and File Preparation.
Is Your RSS Feed Set up Correctly?
When you set up your show's settings in Libsyn, the information you enter sets up your RSS feed. It's important that all of your show settings are entered correctly because many podcast directories use the RSS feed that Libsyn generates based on those settings. Settings include your show's title, artwork, description, categories, and much more.
If haven't set up your show's settings yet, or if you're not done, it's a good idea to check your show's settings to make sure everything is the way you expect it to be.
Have You Set up Your Show's Distribution so Episodes Appear Where You Want Them to?
There are hundreds of podcast directories and apps where you can make your show's episodes available. Directories like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Deezer, Radio.com, and others are popular, and they will help you grow your audience and find more listeners.
You can also make your podcast available on websites - such as your WordPress site or elsewhere - and you can promote your content on social media sites, like Facebook, Twitter, and more.
|Important||Is this your first time publishing? Before you connect your show to publication destinations, you need to publish an initial episode in Libsyn. To do so, go through the publication steps with one or more episodes that are ready. Publishing at least one initial episode is important because it ensures your RSS feed is not empty when you connect your show to podcast directories, social media sites, or websites. Also, many directories want to review some content before they approve your show for their app.
For your episodes to appear in podcast directories, websites, and social media sites when you publish in Libsyn, you have to connect your show to the places you want to publish. Below is an overview of some popular places where you can publish. Click the links to review articles about how to connect your show to the places you're interested in publishing.
